Harin in, Shashindra out.


The Governor of Uva Province has accepted the Leader of the Opposition of the Uva Provincial Council Harin Fernando as the chief minister of the Council after Mr. Fernando assured the Governor that he had the majority support in the Council. Accordingly, Mr. Harin Fernando has been sworn in by the Governor as the Chief Minister.

Mr. Harin Fernando has mustered the support of 17 members of the Council and the number of UPFA members has decreased to 15. The two JVP members have informed they would be independent.

Mr. Shashindra Rajapaksa has lost his chief ministerial post as well as his ministerial portfolio in the Council. According to Mr. Rajapaksa’s close associates he would resign from his membership in the council.
