Colossal amounts paid to US companies to boost Mahinda’s image.

It has been revealed that millions have been spent during former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s tenure to boost Sri Lanka’s image in the USA.

Accordingly, it has been revealed that US company Patton Boggs has been paid Rs. 35,685,907.63 in 2010, Rs. 46,913, 476.71in 2011 and Rs. 12,992,860.05 in 2012. In addition in 2014 Rajapaksa regime has made available to US companies through the Ministry of foreign Affairs 8 contracts of US$5000 to US$75,000 to boost its image.

JVP Leader Anura Dissanayaka said the colossal amount of money paid to Patton Boggs and other US companies for propaganda campaign, was an utter wastage and pointed out that same campaigns could have been carried out with the officials in Sri Lanka’s missions in the USA as such campaigns are their responsibilities.

When these colossal amounts of money was paid to the US companies the Ambassador for Sri Lanka in the US was Jaliya Wickramasooriya, a brother-in-law of Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa. He has been accused of carrying out a racket of exporting refuse tea to the USA instead of carrying out duties of an ambassador.
