Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa loyalists have launched the ‘Mahinda-For-PM Front’ and threaten to take to the streets with protest demonstrations and agitations demanding the dissolution of Parliament on April 23.
General Secretary of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya said leaders of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, National Freedom Front, Democratic Left Front and the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya itself had closed ranks to launch the ‘Mahinda-For-PM Front' and had held lengthy discussions on their future political trajectories as well.
Gammanpila said "If the government decides not to dissolve Parliament on 23rd April, protests and marches as well as street agitations will be launched together with the people. A large crowd attended the rallies held in Nugegoda, Kandy and Ratnapura organized by the 'Mahinda-for-PM Front.' We expect massive crowds to attend our people's protests to force the dissolution of Parliament”.
He said, a special discussion would be held with the thirty members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party who took to the Ratnapura stage to support the 'Mahinda-For-PM Front' rally. We will draw an agenda of public meetings across the country very soon. Our next rally will be in Kurunegala. Whether that rally is to be held before or after the New Year will be decided on after discussions with parliamentarians T. B. Ekanayake and Salinda Dissanayake.
“We will call for Parliament to be dissolved on 23 April at the Kurunegala meeting in accordance with the pledge given to the people” Gammanpila said.
